About the event

After five years of construction, hype from local leaders in government, and pushback from environmentalists, Shell’s petrochemical complex in Potter Township is slated to open in the coming months.

In January 2020, RiverWise, a Beaver County-based sustainable community development nonprofit, alongside community leaders including New Sun Rising, took a week-long, completely self-funded trip to numerous petrochemical complexes along Louisiana’s Gulf Coast.

The journey to Louisiana provided an on-the-ground, personal view of what it means to live among the petrochemical mammoths of the south. Traveling over 2,000 miles, and learning from organizational leaders, environmental advocates, community organizers, politicians, and everyday residents of the region, they observed, asked questions, and filmed extensive portions of the trip.

Now you are invited to join them for the release of “Boom & Bust,” a documentary illustrating the journey from Beaver County to the Gulf Coast region. Filmed, produced, and edited by local filmmaker, Christopher Padgett, the documentary is intended to spur conversation, elevate awareness, and mobilize residents to think critically and ask difficult questions about the future health and vitality of Beaver County.

There will be several opportunities to watch:

A conversation will be held after this screening for those who wish to participate.

Concessions will be available for purchase from the Tull Theater during the screening.

Drinks and a conversation are scheduled at the conclusion of this screening for those who wish to participate.
