GASP Event | Join Us for a Field Trip to Clairton to View the Mon Valley Coke Works Plant & Try Out Smoke Reading
Time & Location
Jun 02, 2023, 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM
Clairton, Clairton, PA, USA
About the event
Many air quality regulations are based on plume opacity. Air Quality Program staff often attend Smoke School to learn how to evaluate plumes. Now, you can become familiar with those skills, too, and make more meaningful air quality reports as a citizen smoke reader.
You're invited to join GASP at 6 p.m. June 2 in Clairton for a field trip to observe U.S. Steel's Clairton Coke Works facility and any visible emissions coming from the plan's stacks.
To get folks prepared for the afternoon, we will also be holding a Zoom meeting at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, May 31, where GASP's project manager and longtime smoke reader Sue Seppi will provide some general information about opacity and need-to-know information about what to bring along on the field trip.
Details on how to join the call will be provided when you register - as will the location where we will meet June 2.
