You're invited to this evening of readings, music, art, and community!
Join GASP and the Battle of Homestead Foundation as we listen to readings by Paola Corso, Edith Abeyta and Patricia DeMarco. We'll also view paintings by Jennifer Rempel and hear songs sung by the Pittsburgh Labor Choir.
This event is free to attend, but registration is required.

Edith Abeyta
Edith Abeyta is an artist, environmental advocate, and fenceline community member living in North Braddock, Pennsylvania. Her practice is centered around people, identity, and negotiating relationships with the built environment. She has been collaborating with residents in the Pittsburgh neighborhood of Hazelwood since 2014. Together they founded Arts Excursions Unlimited (AEU), a grassroots community arts project. Abeyta is also a co-founding member of North Braddock Residents For Our Future (NBRFOF), a grassroots all-volunteer community based organization focused on environmental issues in the Mon Valley. She was awarded the 2020 Community Sentinel Award for Environmental Stewardship by FracTracker Alliance.
Paola Corso
Paola Corso is the author of eight poetry and fiction books set in her native Pittsburgh where her Southern Italian immigrant family members were steel workers. Most recent are Oxygen for Two, The Laundress Catches Her Breath, winner of the Tillie Olsen Award in Creative Writing, Once I Was Told the Air Was Not Breathing, winner of a Triangle Fire Memorial Association Award, and Vertical Bridges: Poems and Photographs of City Steps. She co-founded Steppin Stanzas, a grant-awarded poetry project to celebrate city steps, and is proud to be included on the Pennsylvania Center for the Book’s Literary Map. www.paolajocorso.com
Patricia M. DeMarco, Ph.D.
Patricia M. DeMarco is the Mayor of the Borough of Forest Hills, PA. She is a Pittsburgh author with a doctorate in Biology from the University of Pittsburgh. She has spent a fifty-year career in energy and environmental policy in both private and public sector positions. She writes and lectures in the fields of sustainability, energy and environmental policy, and natural history. https://patriciademarco.com/
The Pittsburgh Labor Choir
Pittsburgh Labor Choir meets to share protest music of labor and anti-fascist movements. They are open to all ages, and all levels of musical skill. @pghlaborchoir
