About the event
From the organizers:
It is crucial that EPA Region 3 leadership tour our region, to hear directly from residents whose lives have been plagued by air pollution-related deaths and debilitating illnesses. This will be a chance for EPA to engage with those most affected, many living in environmental justice communities, whose lived experiences demonstrate the unfair burden that has been placed upon them. The EPA is considering revising standards for annual and 24-hour small particle pollution during 2023. Since the Mon Valley region is already one of the most polluted places in the country, any tighter standards will put pressure on local polluters, and will require more vigilant enforcement by the Allegheny County Health Department. Our Town Hall will build the case for an EPA visit early in 2023. This should be part of their due diligence, which will enable them to oversee local enforcement.
